Very Rev. Fr. George Morelli of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America spoke on the topic forgiveness and the church fathers. His presentation was in a Powerpoint slideshow which will be made available online soon.

Only a bit of audio (about 5 minutes) was captured at the end of Fr. George's talk due to technical difficulties. He mentions a couple of ideas on beginning to forgive and then quotes several fathers including St. Isaac of Syrian and the Good Friday hymn: "Hades ruled the race of men, but not forever..."

This audio of Fr George Morelli was recorded on Saturday, September 17, 2011 by Fr. John Brian Paprock at the Bishop O'Connor Center, Madison, Wisconsin.

"You ... have not been appointed to decree vengeance upon men’s deeds and works, but rather to ask for mercy for the world, to keep vigil for salvation of all, and to partake in every man’s suffering, both the just and sinner. Rather than be an avenger, be a deliverer. Instead of being a faultfinder, be a soother. Instead of being a betrayer, be a martyr. Instead of being a chider, be a defender. Beseech God in behalf of sinners that they receive mercy, and pray to Him for the righteous that they be preserved. Conquer evil men by your gentle kindness, and make zealous men wonder at your goodness. Put the lover of justice to shame by your compassion. Remember that the sins of all men go before them to the judgment seat."

A Needed Web Presence

In Name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.+
Amen.+

This blog was set up for members of the Orthodox Peace Fellowship in Madison, Wisconsin to post information about Madison area activities.  Madison was the host community for OPF-North America's annual conference in September 2011.

Initially, this was also set up for posting conference recordings and resources related to that conference.

Madison has had members of OPF for years, but does not yet have an official chapter of the international organization. Perhaps, that will change.

In the meantime, please pray for peace in Madison, Wisconsin, the United States, and the entire world - for the peace from above in all human spheres of activity.

And pray for us, serving Christ in Madison's Orthodox Churches.

In peace and service,
Fr. John Brian
